Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and white corn meal.
Add in eggs and milk, mix well.
Heat skillet on medium to high heat, melt shortening.
Pour batter in hot skillet with melted shortening. Gently and slowly stir in melted shortening to batter.
Remove skillet from stove and place in preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes.
When toothpick is inserted and comes out clean, remove from oven and let cool before serving.
