Gun Tote’n Mamas’ Distressed Buffalo Leather Town Tote Review

I purchased Gun Tote’n Mamas’ Distressed Buffalo Leather Town Tote 2 to 3 years ago. That was pretty soon after they introduced this line of distressed bags. I had been looking for a concealed carry handbag that I found to be trendy and fashionable, and this bag did not disappoint. Lately, I have seen many trendy concealed carry handbags becoming available. Which is AWESOME because every girl loves and excuse to buy a new purse. Plus, husbands are also more likely to buy them if you tell them they are concealed carry 🙂

Appearance

How does it look?

GTM’s Distressed Buffalo Leather Town Tote is a satchel style handbag. This tote is made with full grain buffalo leather, that has been tanned to give off a distressed look. The leather is a high quality and truly does look better with age and use. I have owned this tote for almost 3 years and it does look better with time. I consistently get compliments on this bag even from women who do not carry.

There are two ways to carry this tote, the first way is to carry it using the two top handles. The second way is to carry it using the strap which can be used in shoulder or cross-body position. I prefer the cross body position myself. I feel the hand bag is more stable and secure. The strap can easily be removed and attached by brass colored clips.

One of the cool things GTM bags are known for is the adjustable reinforced straps. The strap on this hand bag is reinforced with a 11 ply steel wire. You would never know it by looking at it. The purpose of the reinforced steel strap is to make it next to impossible for someone snatch your tote by cutting or ripping the strap.

Is it comfortable?

As mentioned previously, my preferred carry position for this tote is in the cross body position. I find this to be the most comfortable. Everything about the strap and tote handles suggest comfort, and I haven’t experienced anything different.

The overall size of the bag is 12″ wide x 10-1/4″ tall x 5-1/4″ deep, these are also the dimensions of the main tote compartment. That’s A LOT of room! You can basically use this bag as an overnight bag if you wanted. With that being said, I tend to stuff anything and everything into my daily purse. The only time I have found this tote to be uncomfortable is due to it’s weight, but that is when it is slam-packed full of my junk 🙂

Functionality

Does it conceal a firearm?

Yes, the bag does conceal a firearm. Located on the back-side of the purse is the concealed carry compartment. This compartment is accessible through a zipper opening on both ends of the purse. Having access to the concealed carry compartment on each sides allows this purse to be used right and left handed. The concealed carry compartment is lined with extra padding to prevent imprinting through the leather and also protects the firearm.

Does it work how it is intended?

Yes, I believe this bag does work how it was intended. This bag was designed with the intention to create a safe way to carry and conceal a firearm that will also give you easy access to your firearm if needed. The firearm is accessible but as recommended with all concealed carry items you must train. Training with your concealed carry item and firearm allows you to improve your draw time and accuracy.

Wrapping Things Up

I am consistently impressed with the materials and quality of GTM’s handbags. This company, is a company I have been following for years. Every handbag I have purchased from them has held up and aged well. I also have noticed over they years they are designing bags with more fashion and flare, to appeal to the younger movement of women becoming interested in concealed arry. I love GTM for this!

There are two things I would change about this bag. The first is that I am not a fan of the soft universal holster. I find that my firearm slides in and out of the holster too easily. When I open my zipper concealed carry compartment the pistol tends to not be in the holster at all, it will be lying outside of the holster in the padded compartment. I would like to see something a little more secure for my firearm.

The next thing I would change about this handbag is to add another access to the concealed carry compartment that doesn’t open via zipper. Training is key to be effective when you are carry a weapon concealed. When it comes time to defend myself, I find that I am much slower if I have to struggle with a zipper. I love GTM’s Chrome Zip Handbag because the concealed carry compartment is accessible through a magnetic closure.

In conclusion, yes I would recommend Gun Tote’n Mamas’ Distressed Buffalo Leather Town Tote. The quality of the bag does not disappoint, this is a handbag your will have for years to come. As with all avenues of concealed carry you must train to familiarize yourself with this handbag and accessing your firearm.
