The Bread
Around here we like to test healthier options of food. We can be delightfully impressed, or I am told to “Never buy that again”. When we are assessing new foods texture and flavor are the biggest variants. We discovered Angelic Bakehouse’s 7 Sprouted Whole Grain Bread and it has become our ‘go-to’ healthy option bread substitution. This bread is made from all natural ingredients, is sugar free and dairy free, and doesn’t taste or feel like cardboard. In other words, it makes a mean Pumpkin Spice French Toast.
Pumpkin Spice French Toast Tips
- Do not soak bread in egg and pumpkin mixture too long. Moderately coat the bread when dipping it into the egg mixture. If bread sits in mixture too long it will become soggy in the middle.
- Experiment with the temperature of the frying pan or griddle. If the pan is too hot you will quickly burn the nonstick cooking spray leaving a bitter taste on the french toast. For my stove, the sweet spot is just below medium heat.
- To add some extra flavor to your french toast, try using unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
- To top off your french toast, use all natural organic grade A maple syrup. The flavor is pure and genuine and not blurred with added sugars.
