Cayenne Honey Roasted Almonds
After a long day at work, I get home and start preparing dinner. About that same time I begin a hunt for a snack. I need a snack that doesn’t make me feel guilty or spoil my delicious dinner that I have in the works. These Cayenne Honey Roasted Almonds are perfect! They have the sweet and savory flavors with the added crunchy texture; plus, let’s not forget they are Paleo friendly. What more could you ask for?
Do you have to use almonds?
No, you can use any type of nut you wish to roast. I do recommend to watch your cooking time. Depending on the type of nut you choose, the cooking time may change.
Can you substitute coconut oil?
Yes, I chose coconut oil to add an additional flavor to the Cayenne Honey Roasted Almonds. I thought the light coconut flavor would enhance the other sweet and savory ingredients.
However, the oil in this recipe is used to prevent the almonds from becoming too sticky when coated in honey. With that being said, any oil would do.
If you are trying to stick to the Paleo diet the best oils to use are:
- Avocado oil
- Coconut oil
- Olive oil
- Palm oil
- Lard
On the other hand, vegetable oils are usually highly processed, which is avoided all together in the Paleo diet.
Why is this recipe NOT Whole30 approved?
Whole30 bans ANY any added natural or artificial sweeteners. When in Whole30 mode, the goal is to reset your body to achieve the ultimate food freedom. Sugar is the biggest culprit when it comes to cravings and has been proven to be quite addictive. As a result of removing ALL added sugars from your diet for 30 days it allows your body and mind to function clearly without those cravings.
